We're at home in Duisburg-Marxloh – a district with a character all its own. A few words about the city and the neighbourhood that shape us.
Duisburg lies in the heart of the Ruhr area, where the Ruhr meets the Rhine. The city has one of the largest inland ports in the world and a long industrial history – and today it blends both with modern culture and great international diversity. The revitalised Inner Harbour, the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and a lively food scene show just how much the city has reinvented itself.
In the north of Duisburg lies Marxloh – a district full of life and diversity. Far beyond the city limits it is known above all for its bridal-fashion mile: couples travel here from all over Germany and neighbouring countries to find wedding fashion, gold jewellery and everything for the celebration. The impressive Merkez Mosque, one of the largest mosques in Germany, also shapes the district. Right in the middle of this special setting, you will find us at August-Bebel-Platz.
A nationally known destination for wedding shopping – from bridal wear to gold jewellery.
A living tradition of jewellers and the gold trade has shaped the district for decades.
People from many cultures make Marxloh an open and warm-hearted district.
Marxloh lies in the north of Duisburg and belongs to the Hamborn city district. The district is known above all for its bridal-fashion mile and its lively gold and jewellery tradition – right in the middle of it, at August-Bebel-Platz, you will find our shop. Obermarxloh is its immediate neighbour.
Duisburg is divided into seven city districts with a total of 46 quarters – from our home in the north to the green south. Here is an overview, ordered by proximity to us.
Our district – bridal fashion & gold tradition
Until 1929 Hamborn was an independent city before joining Duisburg. Worth seeing is Hamborn Abbey with its Romanesque church tower and cloister, a Premonstratensian monastery still active today.
Industrial heritage & Landschaftspark
Our southern neighbour. Meiderich is home to the world-famous Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord – a disused ironworks, now an industrial monument that is colourfully illuminated in the evening. The football club MSV Duisburg also comes from Meiderich.
In the far north, on the Rhine
Our northern neighbour and the northernmost district of Duisburg. Right on the Rhine, the water meadows invite you for walks; the former Walsum colliery recalls the mining past.
City centre, Inner Harbour & university
The centre with the Königstraße shopping street and the revitalised Inner Harbour, which today combines museums, dining and modern architecture. The main station and the campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen are also here.
Left bank of the Rhine & the historic harbour
Ruhrort is the historic heart of Duisburg's harbour history; it is also home to the German Inland Waterway Museum. On the left bank of the Rhine, Baerl retains a village-like, green character.
Left bank of the Rhine, former steel site
The left-bank district was long shaped by the Krupp steelworks. On the former works site, the modern logistics hub Logport has since been created.
Green & quiet, with woods and lakes
The greenest part of Duisburg, with extensive woods and the Six Lakes area around Wedau – a popular recreation and sports area. Living here is quiet and close to nature.
